Dear Neighbours, Thank you to everyone who gave their valuable feedback last year when we consulted the community on the redevelopment of the PC World and B&M sites on the Old Kent Road. Southwark Council will appoint a developer who can work in partnership with them to build the scheme, which will provide up to 500 new homes (50% council homes), as well as shops and business space. While this process takes place, further design work will be paused. We look forward to sharing updated designs later this year, including how your feedback has been incorporated, and continuing our consultation with you. Please read below for an update on the PC World and B&M Sites.

As you may already be aware, we are planning to build up to 500 new homes on these sites, half of which will be council homes. This will be a net zero carbon development (in line with our climate emergency commitments) and will include new shops and spaces for businesses, creating new jobs in Old Kent Road.

Over a period of two weeks at the end of July, we met with businesses and residents in the area to understand their views on the proposed development, and listen to the community’s perspective on what makes Old Kent Road unique. As part of this we hosted an ‘Ideas Week’ at Treasure House (the former Livesey Museum at 682 Old Kent Road). The series of events included an open exhibition and tailored workshops. We met with over 100 local people, and had 42 people participate in workshops. Thank you to everyone who got involved.

Since July, we have been considering your feedback, but there's still a lot of work to do. We have decided to postpone the end of year consultation events so that we can take our time to respond to what we’ve heard to date and design the best possible new homes and spaces for the community.

Over a period of two weeks at the end of July, the project team were fortunate to meet with individuals and businesses from the area to understand their thoughts on the emerging ideas of the project, and learn about the community perspective on what makes Old Kent Road unique. This was through an ‘Ideas Week’ held at Treasure House (the former Livesey Museum at 682 Old Kent Road). The series of events included an open exhibition and tailored workshops with the community. We have engaged with over 100 locals, 42 of which participated in the workshops.

There is still time to have your say here on the commonplace website, so please leave your feedback before Friday 20 August, after which the comments section will be closed to allow us to collate and analyse your feedback over the last month.
